Because "hunting" deer for sport and food keeps the population down..........your "kill" is registered and accounted for and you are (supposed to be) legal in doing so........AND only allowed so many per season depending on your area.
Deer are NOT domestic animals and therefore should not be kept in captivity..........(it's not fair to the deer)
However, you can live in an area populated with deer and place "feeders" around.........draw them in and don't harm them and you will (almost) have them as pets..........they will show up regularly and get used to you!!

Where did you get this information from?
This question is irrelevant to me, because I neither want to kill a deer nor do I want to keep one as a pet.

Well, my dad used to ALWAYS go deer hunting and come back home with a deer and my mom would cook it and we would eat it foe dinner. It's really good and VERY delicious. My half brother would have about 1 or 2 deer's half body in the basement, on the wall. I'm hmong so that's wat hmong people kinda do.

I don't think it is illegal to keep them as a pet as you, of course, would not have them as inside house pets. If you have the land and they graze on your land, etc they are your pets and I don't think anyone could or would do anything about that. Please don't kill any of them tho'. They are beautiful creatures.
