She was always a fairy, but those questions can be answered when Disney trots out a series of books and a movie about Tinker Bell

Fairies are a beauty virgin and divine......or just like goddess.....who'll always be there to help you and be on the right side at the right time in order to gain good luck in your life....
Many kids and even grown ups loves and believes in magical myths like fairies,Unicorns,Pegasus,Little Ponies etc.....sometimes they had a dream to visit that magical world....
Well according to author's creation,Tinker Bell is a part of the fairies....a small fairy of nature which can dust out a golden powder like pores which can make any living thing fly!
In the movie this tinker bell was a fairy even before peter pan's birth,so she's immortal....hope you have seen the movie 'The Peter Pan' and 'The hook'.
They are many different types of fairies that we believe in our imaginations and dreams.
There are tooth fairy, Cinderalla's fairy god mother etc....
Like for example 'Ferngully-the last rainforest' a young fairy who is a natured fairy as tiny as a bee have the power to revive the nature from deforestation or to grow plants and trees instantly, well she does have family her parents and friends in a fairyland in ferngully,so she's just as mortal as humans even though she is a fairy....
but the tinker bell is immortal so that means she can live long for centuries as a legend....
You see fairies are sometimes mortal or immortal legends....they are not real but they are myths.
Hope this answers to your question....
Note:
See its not bad if you believe in fairies or gods...some people make fun of it and don't know the true meaning of it(like friendship, love, helpful, truth, honesty, positive living)....so don't mind others and be positive on your own....and good luck!

She is not a fairy but, a Flying Pixie!!!!!!!
Tinker Bell is the jealous pixie who glows brightest for Peter Pan. Her voice sings like a tinkling bell and a sprinkle of her pixie dust can make you fly. But this sprite can turn spiteful if she suspects that Peter's attentions are diverted to anyone but herself. It's bad enough that she has to compete with Never Land's other adoring females (the mermaids and Princess Tiger Lily), but now Peter's brought back this Wendy person from London. Tink would lay down her life for Peter, but he's too busy playing Wendy's hero to care. Somehow she'll find a way to settle the score, even if it takes eliminating the competition.
In Sir James M. Barrie's original play, Tinker Bell is traditionally staged as a flying point of light beamed from offstage. Animator Marc Davis' personification of her as a winged pixie with a very womanly figure was widely criticized as too sexually suggestive by Barrie purists, especially after it was rumored that she was modeled after actress Marilyn Monroe. Tink was actually modeled after Margaret Kerry, the actress who performed her live-action reference.
The popular Miss Bell went on to a second career as TV hostess for Disney's anthology series ("Disneyland®," "Walt Disney Presents," "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color," and "The Wonderful World of Disney"), and Tinker Bell still flies through the sky over Disneyland every night in the summer to herald the evening fireworks.
Film: "Peter Pan" (1953)
Live Action Model: Margaret Kerry

She was born a fairy. She was a common fairy, and her job before hanging out with Peter Pan was to mend pots and pans. That's what "tinker" means - someone who fixes pots and pans.

I don't think anybody is born a fairy. At one point in time, even Michael jackson and Elton John liked the punnani

I'm just going to say she was a fairy her whole life, but it could be possible that she was something else than a fairy. You never know, only the creator would know.
