I had answered a question similar to this one recently and I wanted to add my answer to this question too.....

I want to live each day to the fullest. I want the people around me to know without a doubt how special they are to me. I want to learn something new everyday. I want to leave a room and have people say, wow, what a nice person. I want to wake up with a smile every morning. I want to be respected for being myself and not walking the same line as everyone else. If I can do all these things then I will have lived my ideal life.

Here's my ideal picture of successful.

1. Waking up every day excited about what you are going to do that day.
2. Having a tight circle of good people around you all the time (but also having the option to be alone if you want).
3. Not having to work for money, but wanting to work because you find it challenging and rewarding.
4. Knowing every day that you make a big difference in somebody's life (or more than one person). Or if you're really successful, you know that every day you make the world a better place to live.
5. Last but not least, having a "special someone" who understands you, who you feel perfectly comfortable around, and who will always listen to you without judging you.

I have some of these, but not all. So I'm somewhat successful but I have a long way to go.

I'm going to quote a cliche, because I think it's beautiful: "Success is getting what you want, but happiness is wanting what you get."

I know a lot of people who are "successful" by traditional standards - they have the house, the job, the clothes, etc. but are in debt to keep up this appearance. As a result, they're stuck working at their job 10, 12, 14 hours a day to pay for it all.

Success to me is about being able to provide for myself, put a roof over my head and food on my table. I'm fortunate to be able to have some nice extras: cute clothes and shoes, etc. On top of that, I have time to spend with my husband, my family and my friends.

I think I've achieved a nice balance. So yeah, I guess I am successful. But there's always room for improvement.

It means being financially secure and having the means to do what makes you happy.

I'm not there yet (I'm only a 19 year old college student) but I'm working toward it.

Success is being able to accomplish what you set out to do. This applies to everything, including employment, career, etc.
