The membranes rupture (water breaks) before you go into active labor in only 15% of pregnancies. It's actually quite rare. Normally your water breaks once you're already at the hospital or your doctor will have to break it for you.

If your water does break before you are at the hospital, you need to call your doctor and go immediately. Once the membranes rupture the risk of infection for the baby heightens drastically.

Congratulations and good luck!

Sometimes the water doesn't break until you are pushing. Sometimes the water NEVER breaks and the baby is "born in the caul" which is considered lucky. Your water DOES NOT have to break for you to be in "real labor." ALSO...the longer it stays intact the better. Labor will be easier to handle and there will be less risk of infection.

#1 - my water stayed intact for about 16 hours until I consented to AROM - that kicked me into transition - 45 mins later I was pushing and 45 mins later he was born

#2 - my MW broke my water while I was pushing

#3 - my water broke on it's own while I was pushing

LADIES...YOU DO NOT have to let anyone break your water! Leave it alone and it will break on it's own. If it's still intact while you're pushing, THEN discuss breaking it.

You can go into labor for a long time before your water breaks. Sometime the doctor has to break it for you.

I heard that you just might simply achieve all of it again while you begin consuming once more. Lol at those persons combating. A nerve used to be surely struck for the reason that Agnes and I has no longer almost as a lot thumbs downs or thumbs up because the others which means that anybody is doing all of this. It's a foolish query men relax.

Not all women experience having their water bag breaking and be in labor - some don't break their water bag and they are in labor. My mom never did, but I did with my first pregnancy - my water leaked out in the middle of the night. My mom only had intense contractions, and she knew she was in labor - with all 6 of her kids, she never had her water leak out while in labor.

The signs that you can look for to see if you are in labor are:

First Phase of Labor:Early Labor
(you may experience one or all)
-loss of the mucus plug
-backache (either constant or with each contraction)
-indigestion or diarrhea
-menstrual-like cramps
-leaking amniotic fluid

Second Phase: Active Labor
-increasing discomfort with contractions
-increasing backache
-leg discomfort
-fatigue

Third Phase: Transitional Labor
-strong pressure in the lower back and/or perineum
-rectal pressure, with or without the urge to push or move your bowels
-legs may be crampy or cold
-may experience nausea or vomiting

Goodluck!

Very easily. My labor started with my first daugher at 9pm on Sunday night and they had to break my water at noon the next day! It doesn't happen automatically. Good luck!

It happened to me. My dr had to break my water even though I had been in labor for 24 hours already. It is fairly common.

It can happen. Sometimes the water doesn't break until right before the baby arrives.

And sometimes it breaks all over the sofa before the first contraction (man, that was a mess).
