i don't know how to open a .rar file after i download it. does anyone know how to? if you do please tell me how to. with details. thankx

Download WinRar which an archive program similar to WinZip but better. It also opens on .zip files and other utilities.

Download WinRAR - it is a compression/uncompression utility - a .RAR(rar) file is a file created by WinRAR

click download button at bottom of page(before you scroll you should see it)
after downloading the program run the install
after install - go into your start menu (it will say new programs installed) -> all programs -> then to Winrara folder... until you can actually run the program.
when you run the program - it will open in a window click open? (i don't know for sure offhand what button it is - you can go to the file menu though) it will bring up another window where you can go to your .rar file. one you have found it dbl click it it wil appear in the first window. At this point - click extract(it may ask you where you want to extract to - select a location).
You are done.

hey download 1st WINRAR by taking help when they show to search in for we for an appropriate prog. and from there download WinRar ok or search yahoo for download WinRar to download .rar files

u need to download a little program thing called winrar. you can get a trial version off the official site of winrar. That's how i did it and I'm still using it.

Just follow whatever the other people have suggested to you on this site and yes, if the file that you downloaded is of Real player format and compressed to a .rar compression technology for faster transfer then yes, you can view the file in Real player. File extensions for Real player are as follows and files with these extensions alone work with Real player:
.rm, .rmvb, .ra, .rax and .rv.

You need WinRar to extract it.
After downloading the program, right-click on the file, Choose Extract Here to extract to the folder it is in.

sounds like you could be downloading zip files that contain files which your antivirus program recognize as unsafe and are being quarantined automatically. Try shutting down your antivirus software and then downloading the file again to see if it helps. Do so at your own risk ;-)

Go to download.com and get winzip or winrar, either of those two programs will unzip a .rar file for you.
