Meet the Press has been on the air for 48 years (the show first went on television in 1947), making it the longest running television show.
Gunsmoke was on the air for 20 years and holds the record for prime-time television. The Simpsons is the longest current running prime time show, having been on the air for 17 years. Law and Order has been on television for 16 years. Simpsons has 3 years remaining on its contract, and Law and Order is also expected to reach 20 years as well. One of these two shows will probably set a new record.

Currently, I belive that honor belongs to The Simpsons, However, i belive i may be wrong. Also, are counting Soap Operas? If so i belive that honor belongs to General Hospital ( I think) sitting 30 some odd years
