Well, it really does depend on how much you are willing to spend but I like this config:
Actually, just see my other answer over here, http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Albv3CNW1syO1umQnBpn2kHsy6IX?qid=20060803172803AA3khEx that being said, you don't need 8GB of memory, take that down to 2GB and you also don't need a full tower and you could probably get by with two 7300GT graphics cards so taking the same one and reconfiguring it gives a price of:
$1589
Note I did not change the case, all I did was take the memory down to 2GB and substituted two 7300GT graphics cards (which are fine performers when operated in SLi mode).

just go to newegg.com the have mobo's for 40$ and you can build a computer for about 150-200$ that would cost you 1000$ and up at the store
