Ideal utilization is sustainable utilization.

So if you cut down trees, you plant new ones that will replace the ones you cut. As long as you do that carefully, you'll never run out of trees.

The problem comes when you deplete your resources. Drilling for oil is an example, because you can't "plant" new oil to replace that which you pumped out of the ground. When the last oil is gone, it's gone for good.
