I come from a family just like the ones the author was "trying" to study. She captured some, only some, of what it is like to live in poverty and in a family where my parents bust day in and day out for a low wage. I was seriously apalled by this author's niavite. What angers me the most is when I discussed this text with my affluent peers, they seriously just don't get it. If this author's point was to share what it is really like, she missed the mark.

I liked it.
It can kill a person's spirit to have to get by on such low wage, in my opinion. The author was only playing at that lifestyle for the purpose of her book but she still suffered and lived through it.
She did have a hard time understanding the perspectives of the women who were maids, I thought, but in time she saw why they acted the way they did.

well, the real point of that book is the content, not the writing style. I think the book had great information to relay and exposed a lot of things people were unaware/in denial of. I agree she's not the greatest writer, but that's not why I read the book. if I want great writing I'll read Hemingway.

I hate the reality the book describes but I think it's an important.book. It isn't great literature but it isn't meant to be. Are you focusing on how much you hate the author's writing style because you don't want to hear what she has to say?

I just wonder how you can tell us how much you hated this, and we tell you the same thing back.

Feelings are not something solid that you can measure, thus we can never know if my feeling are equal your feeling even if we both say it was bad:)
