Petersburg, VA.
It's a nice place and just south of Richmond. I-85 and I-95 meet there. 85 actually ends there.
I posted earlier about this and came back to edit because I remembered that I was already in NC the weekend we met up there. Durham, NC is about halfway, but I don't know much that's there other than the colleges.

Strasburg, VA. It's right off of 1-81 and a great little small town with nice B&Bs, shops, etc. Also I-81 is a much nicer drive than I-95, a lot less stressful and ten times more scenic.
