Ronaldo is much more popular than Ronaldhino, with matching Pele's reocord for goals made in the cup. Both are great players, but they sucked so bad against France. Football is in the blood of every Brasilian. Players, coaches, and referees have been murdered after returning to their home country from a losing game, so the burning of an effigy (most likely vandalism) is not a big deal in Latin America. Americans are clueless on how much it means to win/lose the Cup in South America, let alone the rest of the world, so yeah, it seems extreme to you. Tehn again, Americans are clueless as to everything else happeneing in the world too.

I did know that and from the moment i herd about is I thought is was really wrong!!! They built the statue in his Honor and a poor performance doesn't mean that he no longer has the talent that he was originally honored for
Everyone is human and I believe that Ronnie was exhausted at the Wold Cup.
You sound REALLY upset and hurt by this...I'm so sorry that you feel that way. In your heart you know that he still ROCKS!!!

I knew that. The mayor actually gave permission to damage the statue. I think they never should have built it in the first place.

People are fickle. AND passionate. What can you do? One day you love your idol, you have a scrapbook with his pictures, and the next thing you know he disappoints you in some way and suddenly he's the DEVIL!
"Love" and "hate" baby are not that far away from each other.

I heard of that. Sh*t, don't idolize the man. He's only human and what's more that kind of worship puts too much pressure on him to perform. That can only cause him anxiety which makes it more likely that he will not be the superstar everyone thinks he is. He said as much himself.

Brazil should spend less money on huge statues, and more on paying back their enormous debt they incur yearly and rely on others to pay for them.
