Why aren't teachers and childcare givers paid more?

Question

If children are our future then why are the people who have the biggest influence on them outside their parents not paid more than a pittance? We pay entertainers enormous sums. It does seem like our priorities are in balance.

It's not about our priorities, it's about our economy. One reason teachers get paid less is that they usually work full time only 10 months out of the year. Also, if your school district wanted to give all of it's teachers a 10% raise, taxes would go up. People don't like that and often vote down such raises. Entertainers get paid millions of dollars because millions of people pay almost $10 each to go see their movies. When our kids pay a "cover charge" as they walk into school, maybe then teachers will get paid what they deserve.

Life isn't fair.

There are a lot more teachers and childcare workers than there are entertainers. Teachers are actually fairly well paid compared to the average wage in most states. People can only afford to pay a certain amount before it becomes cheaper for one parent to stay home and raise the children. Its a question of economics. If it costs you more to have someone to take care of your children than what one spouse earns then that spouse should stay home to take care of the children

You ever see Jerry McGuire, teachers don't have agents "yelling show me the money". Pro teams are willing to pay huge sums of money for good players. Fans pay for tickets and want their team to win. Teachers get paid squat becasue they would bankrupt the government if they made 5 mil a year plus 1 mil signing bouns. I see where your going with this, but thats just the way it is. I personally think that some teachers make to much money for what they do. 3 Months vacation + holidays. Once they have tenure, they cannot get fired. If a ball player sucks, they get canned. Most teachers that tuff it out get paid very well by the time they retire.

ECONOMICS in the FREE MARKET.
There isn't much education needed to be a teacher or a child care giver. Anyone can do it, making other jobs like a doctor, lawyer, accounting etc. more scarce which means more $. It's just how our economic system works.

Entertainers are paid because idiots (even I) go and support them. We pay $7 to watch their stupid movie, $13 for there bad CD. If we stop that they would be poor. We are the ones driving their pay so high, and hollywood capitalizes on us.

Teachers in Connecticut are very well paid thanks. Saying teachers aren't paid enough is like saying we need more lawyers.If it wasn't for local property taxes due me and my boyfriend could have gone somewhere instead of just sitting at home all week on our vacation.

As for Childcare, again, how much money do you think the average Joe Sixpack earns?

Some parents are on their own. I know women that spend all their money paying someone else to raise their kids.

Here's my plan. Senior Business Leaders retire to teaching positions after they have proven themselves succesful. All Childcare is done by grandmothers that know how to bake cookies. Tax incentives for both groups if they are willing to participate for 5 years. Great experience, great rotation. These folks would love the long term tax advantage. Everybody wins.

good question, maybe because we do not value our children as we should. Look at how many child molesters and pedophiles are running around after abusing children over and over again. We need to pay those who care for our children a decent wage so that our kids get the care they deserve!

our society and politicians that govern it seem to give little regard to those who are molding the children, our future. It is really sad. They could stop spending $$$ on the war in the middle east, and we would have the most robust school system...but maybe there isn't as much profit in that???

entertainers get paid more of a commission of sales , it is not even comparable . teachers job is very important but really isn't that hard

do you watch movies and such? entertainers make so much because we pay for them to entertain us, their salaries are not decided by the government. Plus Teachers dont have it that bad. Stop Whining.
