Let the poor thing go. It's not meant to be a caged pet or a pet at all. I cannot believe you are wasting our time with this question.
Hasn't anybody ever told you this before? It really should be common sense.
Would you keep a bear cub as a pet? Or a wild deer? It is unreal how naive some people are.

Why do you have a butterfly for a pet? Butterflies drink from flowers, and need to roam around so they can have a normal life floating around trying to find food. Please don't keep it in a cage, I can guarantee you that it will die.

butterflies only live for about 48 hours, so really do your self a favor, let it go so you don't have to explain death to you daughter!!
