today i went to a job interview, and the guy said that i smile a lot
is that a bad sign??
i have nice teeth and smile, and i am just a generally happy person, so why am i feeling bad about his comment?
ps i don't think i got the job and its probably b/c of that

Good lord, no. NEVER stop smiling. You make people want to smile with you. Hapiness is what the world needs more of. Your smile is a gift to those who see it. If they don't hire you, it's not because of that.

Does the job entail keeping your mouth shut for extended periods of time? If so, then yes you might have a problem.
Smiling isn't black and white. There are varrying degress of smiling; think Jack Nicholson from The Shining. Instead of having the mindset of "I smile too frequently" maybe you should bring down the intensity of your smile.
What some may see as a welcome mat for "I'm friendly and want to express that" some could easily read as "I'm insencere and have something to hide."
What you should do is set up a camera to record yourself using the telephone and play it back on mute to see what sort of faces and smiles you make. Maybe for the interviewer it was more an issue of intensity than frequency.
Or perhaps you were just smiling at inappropriate times or just substituting a smile for an in depth answer. Some things to consider for your next job interview or your second call-back.
Who knows, maybe it was a good thing.

It depends on where u smile. Maybe the person who said this thought u may not be taking him seriously. next time make sure u are serious during times like these but generally i think that people who smile a lot are happy a lot. So keep on smiling but remember where to smile.

You could have countered with "Would you rather that I frown alot? Would it help me get this job if I frowned more?" Then laugh (hopefully with the interviewer)
