I am a huge sports fan, I work with a gay guy. He asked us if some of our favorite College football , Basketball and NFL players came out would we still watch with the same enthusiasm?

To be honest I don't know, I'm a Steelers Fan and if Jerome Bettis, Chad Johnson or Reggie Bush came out or something that would seem strange, I'm not bashing but if your a big sports fan, would it effect you. Shaq, or Gretzsky, or Aggasi, Tracy Mcgrady, Pujos Whoa! But with female sports stars no biggey they actually make more money for being gay but like Micheal Vick or Jerry Rice or a Ray Lewis man that would be weird.

I'm not being a jerk I'm just being honest, what about you would it effect your enthusiasim to watch the sport?

You say you hope that would be the case but would it, When Kordell Stewart was supposedly gay I was like man that's my QB. It's kind of sucked, I think I'm just not afraid to say it. I don't how to get past it.

This might be a stretch but I am going to try to answer from a guys perspective... I could see it affecting you enthusiasim for the game. Why? Well you men watch sports because you can watch balls to the wall action, it feeds your testosterone, and in some ways I am sure it affects your adrenaline. When all of a sudden you find out that the very thing the game represents to you is changed into something that is the very opposite of why you like it then I could understand an adverse reaction.

Does that make sense?

This was a good answer

well, its not a big deal to me, but i'd hate to be kordell's center. I think what your trying to say is some people can't adjust to change as well as others. I mean you look at ray lewis as this big, bulky, manly figure that u want to be just like, and then you find out he's gay. It's like trying to see Brett Favre as a viking. You're just not going to adjust that well to the thought.

That is not how i feel though. I work with a lesbian couple, and before i knew they were gay they were the most fun people to be around ya know. Pull some pranks on people, mess around, and then you find out they're gay. Initially its a shock, but then u adjust.

I'd like to dismiss your question totally and say that it would not affect me whatsoever, and I hope that would be the case.

But quite honestly, I don't know the answer to that.

(And, this is a different question than one of discrimination on any basis, including sexual preference. It is easy to be against discrimination, but the subconscious effect of knowing something about a sports "hero", movie star, celebrity, is slightly different somehow.).

It was not effect whether I watch my team or not, but I do not think a player will ever come out. We live in a homophobic world and I am sure many players would not want to shower or play with a team mate who is gay.

ones personal choice of sexual orientation does not matter. as long as you can play up to your potential why shouild anyone care.. if not then that would be another story..

That's an interesting question.

I would like to say that it wouldn't, but I don't know.
