The only negative is the noise, in the old ones. The new ones have the common rail technology that makes them much more quiet.
It will depend where do you live to see availability of fuel.
The cost, in a 4 years old F250 4wd with a 7.3lt, 285hp engine you can get up to 13MPG.
RELIABILITY as in any other car or truck, diesel or gasoline, will depend whom you buyit from.

I can't hear my car stereo when one pulls along side of me! Besides, diesel fuel is now even more expensive than unleaded.
