Humans may survive another 500 years and the probability of an asteroid hitting the Earth is very likely to hit us at any time. Astronomers cannot see that far into space to give us more than a few weeks warning at the most. What would we do any way?..... where are we going to run?.... where will it hit? The Earth has been hit many times before.

Lots of asteroids rain down every year, but in all recorded history, I think only a couple of people have been actually hit.

I don't know about you, but I am 47 years old. There is no way I am going to survive for another 500 years.

The probability of an asteroid hitting our planet is a certainty. When? Now that's the million dollar question. We can count on getting whacked good every 75,000 years or so, planet altering whacked that is. Given the long time spans, it could be 10 years from now, it could be 12,000 years from now. So take a guess when. It will be as good as any ones guess.

If we can put a halt to population growth and put enough resources into getting enough of us off the planet, the destruction of Humanity can be put off indefinitely. Once out there, we can take positive action to change the course of any threatening asteroids and if some disaster ends life on Earth at least there will have been some one of us standing on the Moon or farther out to write Earth's epitaph as they head out for the stars.

scientists have a pretty good grasp of the things moving around the galaxy...they would have calculated an asteroid hitting us and we would know about it. I would say there is a definite probability that an asteroid will hit us, but a major one, very slim chance

There is a 100% certainty that we will be hit again and again. It all depends on the size of the asteroid, meteor or comet that hits us as to whether or not all, some or none of us survive.

Nasa would know. Call them.
No one knows the answer to this. If there were an astroid coming for us this very moment, no one would tell us. It'd be considered top secret. I'd say it is possible of course. One blew by the Earth this year & just missed us. It wasn't on the news until after the fact. Did they tell us when we were threatened by it? No.

500 years ?
Where did you get that number ?
Aside from major disasters such as huge asteroids and such,
I see no reason humans will not be around for millions of years.
This is not to say that civilizations will not rise & fall but there is
no realistic logical reason to presume that we are going to become
extinct any time soon...
