Don't answer if you are not offended, I want to know why it shocks people to see it.

No, I am not. I breast fed my baby for 2 years & I can tell you from a Mothers' standpoint why many people are shocked. It is because they associate a woman's breast with a sexual object or an erotic object used for sexual gratification. Men & women seemed to be equally ignorant as to the real purpose that a woman's breast was intended to be a food supply to a child. Many suggested that I leave the premises or go into the bathroom to feed my child & I politely said "no thank-you, we are ok" & although I knew they did not like it, I continued to breast feed my child because this was more important than their ignorance & embarrassment. I never exposed myself, yet people would walk up just to try to see if they could see anything! I never understood this lack of mentality.

I'm... I don't know. I'm not REALLY offended, but it's a bit like.. making out. Making out ISN'T wrong, it's just not something we want to see in public. It's something to be done in private. Personally I'm just a really shy person so if I breastfeed I'd do it at home, and just carry a bottle around in public. I don't see why people had problems with a baby breastfeeding on a magazine cover (as a recent yahoo article said), because I'd be fine with it, seeing as it's natural. But that's a picture. A moment captured. As for real-life breastfeeding... I'd just rather not see women's breasts popping out of their shirts to feed their babies. There's enough of it with the way skanky girls are dressing these days anyway.

I'm not offended. Only shocked, because I wasn't raised with that and I think people should keep it private.

To the person below
I was asked for my opinion and I gave it. I have my opinion and you have yours. Should I lie? Should I be afraid to offer an opinion? I was raised American and this is the opinion of most Americans, especially in the Midwest where I'm from. Too bad if you don't like it, I really don't give a crap.

Several reasons.

1) The cans are covered the rest of the time and now they are OUT THERE saying look at me.
2) It reminds me that we are just animals, highly evolved, but still just animals.
3) If a woman cannot go topless, why is it alright in this situation?
4) How difficult is it to find a nice quiet spot to feed your child?

I'm not offended by the act of breat feeding, but by the women who are so brazen as to just "whip it out" in a public place. Yes, breast feeding is natural, but so is peeing and pooping. If you must breast feed in a public place, then put a receiving blanket over the area.

I find it unnatural. I know that sounds odd. But we are not cows. I do not consider myself a food source. I'm a person! I will not be milked. I don't want to see your nasty ugly boob. And even if you're hiding it and I don't see it, I still know what you're doing and it gives me the creeps.

I'm not against breastfeeding for anyone else (I'd never do it should I be so unlucky as to get knocked up). I just don't want to have to see it.
