Cowboy Bebop. It's got good music and an awsome story line that kept me entertained from the very first episode. The second best would be Outlaw Star. The animation is outdated compared to shows like Samurai Champloo but it had a interesting plot and a set of fun characters.

I recommend Cowboy Bebop- great music and some really deep storytelling, when they aren't clowning around!
Samurai Champloo is very much the same except it loves to twist history, too.
If you like intelligent anime with great tunes, these are good choices. I also recommend Ghost in the Shell-Stand Alone Complex if you are really looking for a smart-person's anime!

Out of those five, I love Trigun, Samurai Champloo, and Cowboy Bebop, but the best IMO is Trigun, though the other two are very close behind.

The best of what is presented is Cowboy Bebop due to writing, characterization, and soundtrack. But NONE of these are shining examples of anime. How about branching outside of what Adult Swim throws your way?

I don't like any of them but my boyfriend loves Berserk. I like funny anime like Hale nochi Guu.
