Your favourite shower gel, it will smell nice!!! But put it on an extra rinse cycle so it does not irritate your skin!!!

I would advise using NOTHING but laundry detergent due to sudsing, you would have a horrible mess and you might ruin your machine. If you are looking for a bargain to get you through a pinch, there are bars of soap for laundry, one is called Fels Naptha. I have no idea how to use these products but I think you grate it and dissolve it in water, then add to your load. It is considered a real bargain among frugal shoppers. Many homesteader types swear by their own recipe of this combined with borax and other cheap ingredients, they make gallons of it and fill old detergent bottles or milk jugs with it.

Adding baking soda to the wash and/or vinegar to the rinse will be a good fabric softener and also freshens stinky laundry AND will soften water to boost detergent's cleaning ability. But neither is a substitute for detergent. I suppose the only thing that would be safe to use, but not really the most effective, is borax or Clorox 2.

Dish soap or shampoo for gentle washing delicate fabrics, add vinegar to boost the cleaning power. Use TSP for really dirty and durable fabrics that don't skin. On sheets it might cause a skin rash.

I would be afraid to use anything but wash soap, you don't want to make too many bubbles
