Ok, I've already posted some other UTI questions earlier. I went to the Doc yesterday and he prescribed microbid (sp?) for my urinary tract infection. Well, when he was examining me, he pushed on my sides, back and belly and asked if I felt pressure or if it hurt and it didn't. Well, this morning, I woke up with pain in all those areas. He didn't push that hard, so I'm assuming it's the UTI. Well throughout the day, the pain seems to be getting a little worse. Should I call the Dr.? UGH, I can't afford another Dr. visit! Should I just let the medicine and infection run it's course? Help!

The pain feels like I was doing crunches and side crunches and now my muscles ache. Belly, pelvis area, sides, and lower back.

The risk with a UTI (urinary tract infection) is that it can spread up and into the kidneys. Hence the doctor checked your kidneys and all over your tummy generally.

Sometimes infections can make you sore in the muscles generally. However, if you are sore in the back (reach around with your arm and tap the lower ribs of your back on each side - you may feel a pain deep inside) it may be a sign of a kidney infection.

Kidney infection is worse than the usual urinary infection because it can be difficult to flush out the bugs from all the hidey-holes in the kidneys. If you feel very unwell with it (esp. loss of appetite, fevers, shivers), you should see the doctor again or go straight to a hospital emergency department. You may well need stronger antibiotics through a drip.

Sometimes people can be in a middle-ground with a very mild kidney infection or perhaps just a bladder infection with sore muscles - you can be brave and tough it out for a while. Drink plenty of water and get some rest. You might do well to try a urinary alkaliniser (ural, citravescent... talk with your pharmacist)

hope this helps

I think the Macrobid will help, it is powerful. The doctor was probably pushing on you to see if your kidneys are hurting, to see if the infection has travelled to them. A kidney infection could be dangerous. Call the doctor's office and tell them about the symptoms and ask if you should come back, or if they think the Macrobid is enough. In any case, drink a lot of water & cranberry juice to flush the infection out of your system. Don't mess around with your health, doctor visits are expensive, but having to go to the hospital will cost you even more.

since you've already been to see him and been diagnosed, just call and say the meds didn't work and he will prescribe something else stronger over the phone.
