Slightly different like : "I have lot of books" - shows the numbers that you can actually count. Whereas,
"I have lots of idea"- shows plenty of something but you cannot count them at all.

The difference between a lot of and lots of is that the first one is more formal and mainly used in writing. Lots of is commonly used in speaking. However; both words have the same meaning.

lot of means a group of things
lots of means plentiful

Also, one is used with an article and one is not.

"I have a lot of friends."
"I have lots of friends."
