"The Clash are probably the best pure punk band ever - they basically defined the genre, with the help of the Ramones and Sex Pistols. If you like Green Day check out NOFX, Pennywise or Rancid. They're a bit more punk-sounding but with some of the general music-writing skills that make Green Day so enjoyable."
