Every city and school district is different, The traditional school year runs from late August to late May.
In the district where I live, we have a year-round program. The school year starts in Mid-July and runs all year, 8 or 9 weeks on with a three or four week break, and the school year ends in mid-June.

Mine starts August 24th! I could cry. Most start around this time into September-usually the cut off is Sept 20th or so.
Unless, there are too many students in the district to put together into the school building. Then they go to school year-round and groups of students go at different times and have different weeks off during the year.
Everything depends on the area, the number of kids in the area, the temperature of the area, when the district ended school and how many holidays they have off for the year.
