I have to agree. Homestead is not the place to crown the champion. I've said the same thing for a few years now. Start the season in Homestead, so Florida still has their February race and then have the July 4th race in Daytona, but let the season end and the championship be decided with the Daytona 500! Since the draft is so important there, it could be a good storyline to see if drivers that have had run ins with each other during the season would help push each other to the front of the pack. I'm all for it!!
And while they're at it, put Rockingham back on the schedule with an April or May race!!

with the chase format, i don't think more hype needs to be giving to the 500 or the end of the season. the 500 has started the season for a good while. while the corporate NASCAR types are wanting to get a new fan base, messing with tradition is not the way to do it. tracks that have had races traditional at a certain time have had their dates taken and given to California or whatever. the 500 at the beginning is a great way to end the winter drought of no races and the ford 400 at homestead is a great conclusion. with the chase and "playoff" format the winner is not a dead give away until the checkered flag drops at homestead. that is pretty climatic to me. while the chase has done some great things to bring interest into the sport and what not, somethings should be left alone.
GO SMOKE!!!

It is a much better hype leading up to the Daytona 500 with it being the first race of the year. With no racing for the three months prior, it gives NASCAR fans a reason to get themselves primed for the new season.
I wouldn't think of moving it from the February date.

No, I like it at the beginning. Quite honestly Speed Week is so unbelievabley stressufl on the teams that I would hate it see it at the end deciding who won the championship. THere is definitely enough excitement mid-season and at the end just for a competition of points that any track will do just fine for me. I don't need all of the other hoopla with it.

Not really I think its exciting to kick off the season with the best track (my humble opinion). Its a great track that shows well on TV and it makes people want to watch and get involved. The thing I am not happy with is the points system the object should be to win not just have above average finishes. You dont see people cheering that they are 3rd but in essence if you just finish above average you are going to be in the top 10 which is total crap.

its tradition gets things revved up for the rest of the season. they say that how well you do in the daytona is how good you will do the rest of the season

I have always wondered why NASCAR has their "super bowl" as the first race it makes no sense to me either.I'm guessing it probably has something to do with tradition or some such.Maybe someone will know the reason and fill us in.
