That's an invention of the Catholic church. It doesn't say anywhere in the bible that church leaders shouldn't marry. In fact, they were expected to. I *think* it was St. Augustine who started the insanity because he screwed around a lot, felt guilty, and wanted to make everyone live by his new rules.
Sound familiar?

This idea came from the Jews, John the Baptist, Jesus, and the Apostle Paul.
The Jews. The Talmud argues that a person whose “soul is bound up with the Torah and is constantly occupied with it” may remain celibate (Maimonides, Laws of Marriage 15.3). This argument could certainly have been based on the biblical example of Jeremiah, a celibate prophet who was ordered by Yahweh not to marry (Jeremiah 16:1-4). Moreover, the Essenes was a group that was active in Jesus’ time that practiced celibacy and thought by most scholars to be the authors of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
John the Baptist and Jesus are both believed to have been celibate for their entire lives. Some scholars believe that either or both Jesus and John the Baptist were influenced in their celibacy by the example of the Essenes.
The Apostle Paul is explicit about his celibacy (see 1 Cor. 7). There is also evidence in the gospel of Matthew for the practice of celibacy among at least some early Christians, in the famous passage about becoming “eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 19:12).
The concept took many twists and turns over the years and will probably take a few more before Christ returns in glory.
With love in Christ.

The Bible neither commands nor prevents men to marry or refrain from marriage. It is up to each individual to decide for themselves and what to do with the opportunities they are presented with.
I do not personally think there is something intrinsically impure or sinful in the sex act and that priests should be able to marry if they wanted to.

Paul, an apostle of Christ, stated it is best not to marry. But it is better to marry than to burn. This means, that a man can do more work for the Lord if he does not have a family to care for. However, if he is tempted to sin (sex) it is better to marry.
The Bible also states that a man shall leave his mother and cling to his wife. This leads me to believe that most men are in need of sexual relations and should find a wife so all is clean in the eyes of God.

There is nothing in the Bible about preachers, reverands, priests or anyone who serves God that they can't or shouldn't marry. It is a Roman Catholic "invention". All the rule really does is frustrate priests and nuns because getting married and having sex is a natural urge that God gave us!

"Some choose not to marry for the sake of the Kingdom of God"(matthew i tink). Priests used be married b4, but they abused the s**t out of it; som o' them anyway. St. Peter was married but lived as brother and sister with his missus when his ministry began.

i think they shud cuz they are channeling their sexual frustrations on to little boys who get molested and violated...if god approves of marriage for people in the world why not priests? every person has sexual desires and to remain celabate your whole life seems impossible...i know from an ex nun that they have sex with nuns they sneak in at night.
