I know a group of kids that are wanting to open a church camp and we were wondering if anyone knows anyone who can help with this either financially or with material. They have a location they just need everything else. I appreciate all of the help with this.

Your best bet is to seek for private grants or grants from private foundations.

The best resource for this is Foundation Center http://www.fdncenter.org . They have a very good database covering all organizations giving grants and you can find foundations that are interested in supporting your type of cause. However, it's a subscription based website ($19.95 per month I think is the cheapest subscription price). But it certainly is worth the fee. You can subscribe one month, and make sure you get all the info you need and then stop the subscription.

If you want to try federal sources, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants.

You'd need to contact an attorney for concrete details of how to go about this, but I'm not aware of many church camps that aren't somehow affiliated with an actual church. So my suggestion would be to first try to find a chuch or churches that would be willing to sponsor the camp, thus the financial part of the quest is taken care of, leaving you only with the legal aspects.

FYI, I imagine the liability insurance would be horrendous.

It is not up to the Government to fund it. Why should they? There is a separation of church and state.

That being said, use the local paper, radio and like minded people to advertise that contributions are being taken. Have the kids collect at the grocery stores. Don't expect the taxpayers to pay for it, if you want something make it happen.

I hope they practice tolerance and love, lord knows we don't need another hate mongering group riding the coat tails of the taxpayers.

I don´t think governments should support religious groups.
