This is a question that's only fair to vegetarians or vegans because they have made a choice to not eat animals (at least the ones who don't eat seafood and poultry and still call themselves vegetarians). They have a one food type thing going on unlike omnivores. I don't know a soul who eats only meat. I don't foresee a future where I would eat only animal foods or vegetarian foods. I'd rather live on Ensure than ever turn on the stove to be stuck with cooking and eating only one or the other. I love them both. Given that I do believe in actually answering the question, I'd have to go with vegetarian because at least I could have something that resembles the flavor and texture of meat whereas the reverse is not true with meat imitating veggies.

my 4 rescue very spoiled dwarf hammy's like :
leaves from the peas you grow in your garden.
live meal worms.
baby sweet corn, or fresh large sweetcorn broken off from the cob.
broken up wholemeal dried spaghetti went mad for it be careful of any sword fights, or cooked pasta\spaghetti.
organic bio plain yoghurt.
no salt cashew nuts.
unlike my chinchilla hated honey but as a treat you cold try it on the end of a stick for them to lick.
millet like the sprigs that pet birds have.
fresh coconut was a hit.

most of what is suggested is right:
NO citrus, no cooked veggies, no iceberg lettuce or celery -too watery, no nutrients, & can cause diarrea. limit watery veggies and fruits to very small pieces - watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes. nuts - any kind but limit them because they are fattening and too much oil isnt good for them & can cause scratching-this includes sunflowers seeds. once a day is good - half a baby carrot or half your thumb size for portions. or split it into twice a day.
