In an effort to maintain a good relationship with your landlord, I would recommend using a product called Repell. You can get it at PetCo or Foster's Smith Veterinarian catalog on-line. It comes in a spray or granules. You can use the granules to make a barrier around your yard and it will keep the doggie from crossing it. You can use the spray to hit the areas that he has already used because it will cover the scent that is attracting him back to the same spots.

It is funny because as a landlord, I'm always cleaning up the tenant's dog do do! But, the Repell now has them pooping elsewhere!

Although it's definitely a rude thing that he's allowing, technically it IS his yard. I'm not sure what you can do. If you can approach the subject politely it might get some positive results. First of all, does your landlord know the dog goes in your yard? If you're calm and explain that you have to pick your way through a "mine field" whenever you're in the yard, maybe that will get his attention.

There are products you can shake on your yard that arent harmfull, but do prevent pets and other pest-type-animals like skunks and raccoons from wanting to play in your yard.. additionally Human hair prevents them from going in gardens so maybe try it on the lawn.... just ask your stylest to let you keep the ahir after your next hair cut... and sprinkle away....

Have you talked to your landlord?

If so, what did he or she say?

You could try to catch the dog in the act and spray it with water. Might discourage it.

Well I would just tell him that you don't like it, but if it continues to happen don't make a big deal out of it unless you want to live somewhere else.
