I hope this may answer your question:
DOS SOFTWARE Advantages:
faster than the Windows program, takes less hard disk space than the Windows program (7 M for DOS versus 19 M for Windows)
It is small, simple, runs on low end machines (8088 up), good for menu-based applications. Still used in some commercial settings (eg shop tills, business ordering systems.) Better for simple repetitive tasks than Windows. Addresses hardware directly.
DOS is free, Easy to setup up,Works with the vast majority of PC hardware, Has a large application base, Can run well on old, low end hardware.

There aren't really that many advantages to using DOS. As far as I know, I don't even think that they are making new versions of it, and they haven't for a really long time. It used to be the native OS for PCs up until Windows ME, but not anymore. So unless you're using a really old computer, you're better off using some variant of Linnux or Unix, which work like DOS (in the command shell), but they are better, and actually relevant now.

You mean DOS 6.2? or Windows (which is DOS-based) in general?
DOS itself is a command-line OS with very limited functionality. I'd think you'd have a very specific purpose in mind to use it.
Windows on the other hand allows you to do all the contemporary things computer users like to do:
listen to music, chat, network, do advanced computing. The downside is that due to its architecture and wide usage it is subject to various types of attack, and Microsoft is arbitrary and slow in its response to these problems.
There are several alternatives to DOS-based systems:
first there's the Mac architecture, which is easily used and fully functional. Also I should mention Linux and the BSDs. Linux is developed by volunteer programmers and users, and has been steadily improving its ease of use. You can download an Ubuntu Linux live cd at http://www.ubuntulinux.org/ and run it on your windows machine without in any way affecting your windows installation; it runs from the cd, not from your hard drive. If you like what you see, you can load it onto your hard drive in lieu of windows or as a dual boot. You can even download additional device drivers for your components at http://www.easyubuntu.org/ . Good luck on what you decide to do.

It doesn't crash! That's the best reason. There is NO way for DOS to freeze and stop working. It's the most stable OS ever, in fact until Windows XP all windows OS ran off of DOS.
