I have been having major problems with my laptop. It has been brought back to circuit city over 3 times, they suck!! Then called manufactuer and they made us run a test on the hard drive which passed, then had us re install everything 2 times. Whats been happening is a physical memory dump, computer freezes when starts up, doesnt even get passed the windows loading so i have to shut it down holding the power button. It has told me that a hard drive could not be detected, to the graphics driver not wotking. Why is this happening especially 2 minutes after everything was reinstalled??? Please Help me this computer cost me $1900 and i just want it to work??

My recommendation: Return it.

lol but seriously, if the error messages vary that much, showing hard drive once and graphics another time, I suspect it could be the motherboard.

I'd say just return it and look for a better one.

IBM's are REALLY good, but they are a TAD expensive (although my IBM was $200 cheaper than yours lol). IBM's also aren't that great for games, you gotta pay em lots of money for a good graphics card. But if its just something for school, IBM would be more than enough.

But getting back to your laptop - as I said, it might just be the motherboard, I'd need a few more details to support that theory though. If I was in your situation, having to take it to circuit city 3 times, re-installing windows twice, I'd just take my money elsewhere.

EDIT: You could also check the memory, like someone else down the list said. MemTest86 is a VERY good program. There are also other tools you can use to diagnose the problem. Be careful of opening the case though, laptops are more difficult to deal with than desktops, and a lot of the time, it can void your warranty. But if you want to keep trying without opening it up, try www.ultimatebootcd.com - No IT man should leave home without that CD hehehe :)

sounds like it might be a memory problem. download the program memtest x86 and run that diagnostic. It's a free program. Do this from a computer that works and burn it to a cd. Then insert into the laptop and make sure it boots from the CD. Run the test and take the results to circuit city. Also, be very assertive at circuit city. Good luck.

What did CC say that they had done to it? Do you have any friends who are techs? Sounds like, to me, that the hard drive power connection, or, the ribbon cable may have been jiggled loose during shipping.
Had an HP desktop that was returned to WalMart, last year, and had an error that the OS couldn't be found.. I bought it for $200 plus tax, and brought it home.
Got it to boot to the setup and it wasn't showing a hard drive.
I opened up the case, took a flashlight, looked inside, and the power cable wasn't connected to the drive..
plugged it in, and bingo, running puter.
If they haven't opened it up, they won't know.
Try that.

Well depending on what type of laptop it is, it can be many things. It can be that the cards and drive need to be re-seated onto the motherboard. It can be the mother board is bad.

Are there any beeps that you can hear when the computer freezes? If so how many?

There are many different things it could be. If you need more assistance contact me on my IM wario1998. Good Luck.

that happens to me plenty sooner or later experience the backside of your computing gadget and make specific it is not overheating. from time to time if it overheats you in basic terms could desire to look ahead to it to return to universal temprature if that doesn't artwork your computing gadget have been given fried from it being too charged. additionally never go away in the battery while you're utilising it on the same time as being plugged till the battery is ineffective. then you definately can incredibly while you're utilising it as a pc computing gadget.

if it is under warranty call the company again or circuit city and tell them that you want a new one. if they don't allow it, return it and go somewhere else.
