----{outdoorsie answers cropped}----

play-do (flour, water, salt, colouring)

crayons and paper

magazine cutting and glue
(scrapbooking?)

How's that for a start?

Potato block printing?

I looked on the internet to find a place near me, and there's this great place called Melba's chocolate factory in the Adelaide Hills, about 40mins away from me... free entry ... look around at how they make chocolate etc...

was a good morning trip!

they had a chocolate fountain - you buy a stick of marshmallows and dip it! Mmmmmm! Sinful!

Are they young kids or are they a bit older? Toys are always a good occupier. If toddlers are coming, make sure the toys are safe. And snacks are a must! Snacks can occupy young children for a good 10 minutes. Just make sure they have a table and chairs their size. And make sure there are no food allergies among the children.

A good activity for young children is to have them make fruit-loop necklaces. Get fruit-loops cereal and yarn. And the children can put fruit loops on a piece of yarn. They might need a little help. But it's good for developing their motor skills.

For older children, get a matching-card game (aka: a memory game). Or if the room has a chalkboard, the children can play hangman. Older children can do more complex crafts. One idea is to get paper bags and make hand puppets. You can be as fancy as you want with this. You can get decorations and glue, then the children can glue eyes, hair (yarn), and other stuff to make a puppet. Or, you can have regular markers/crayons and the children can draw all the body parts. You can also use stickers and glitter. But these things tend to make huge messes (especially the glitter).

If all else fails, you can always try and get a tv and vcr. Then, pick out an appropriate children's movie and put it on. Younger children might not be able to pay attention very well (since their attention spans are usually between 2-5 minutes). But it would probably occupy the older kids.

well if you don't want to spend lots o money you could gather socks and wad them up in a ball and sit them down at a table and get two different sizes tell them to glue them ontop of each other and then droaw a face and get 2 sticks and make arms and you have a snow man it makes a cute home made Christmas present or winter decoration.
