That depends a lot on if the site has inbound links from other sites. These sites will be indexed faster than sites that are manually submitted to the search engines. By the way there is really not much advantage in manually or automatically submitting your site to a bunch of search engines. Submit it to one or two of the big players like google and yahoo and then wait, the others will pick it up and you will not get all the spam that happens when you submit to some of the less reputable search sites.

Some engines such as Google will start to pick them up in as little as 24 hours, but a site's progression up the rankings will depend upon the number of searches for that site or keywords identified in the meta tags. You can shortcut some of this by registering the site with the search enginees, and of course, you can pay to get it listed high up or at the top of the page.
