Howdy Carolyn and Welcome!,

I assume I might know who you are! Anyway you add it to the pan under the evaporator, it is the aluminum thing that gets cold that the air is drawn through inside the air conditioner. Usually water forms on it through condensation and drops down and gathers at the bottom of it in this pan then drains out through a hole in the back if it is a window unit

The bleach simply gets rid of the growth like mold etc, from the water from the Condensed water drawn out of the air from hitting the cold evaporator coils. This growth simply continues "down stream" and follows the stagnant water path on out of the house. Depending on the type of the unit it is easier to get to a window evaporator, as it is immediately in back of the filter. The tray is beneath it and the water just drains towards the back of the machine and out the unit through a hole in the back. There is a fan in the back which has a ring that splashes this water over the outside coils so you should have anything that could be damaged clear of the outside unit clear! This will clean off that coil also.

Likewise in a central unit there will be a plastic hose (actually 2 hose connections)leaving the side of the unit one leading outside and the other will usually be have a elbow and a pipe cap simply sliped on by the installer. This is an ususal installation ... anyway remove the pipe cap and pour the bleach slowly with a funnel into the pipe. It will circulate into the pan inside the unit and then run out the unit by the pipe or hose .

Look near the indoor mechanism of the A/C unit. There should be some piping (mine is white PVC) running from the unit into the floor. Look to see if there is a plug or other mechanism that gives you access to the pipe to add the bleach.

By the way, the bleach is not to prevent condensation, that's going to happen anyway. What it does is clean the condensation piping so that mold and mildew don't grow and clog up the pipe. (I learned this one the hard way!)

adding bleach to avoid condensation makes no sense, its just not physics.
assuming this is central ac there is a pan under it to drain outside which should drain if not plugged. i'd find the pipe outside & push a snake thru it or if u can blow thru it, the pipe is not plugged.the bleach might help clean slime & assist drainage. the pan should drain completely,if not the ac unit has shifted & a constant puddle in the pan will raise hell in your attic. u should put more info into ur question about th ac.

should be directly under your ac unit. There is a pan that is probably wet. That would be it.
