Of the five snakes you mentioned, the Ball Python is probably the best to start with. Besides the garter, they are the cheapest of your list. (sometimes only 24.99) They are the most doscile of your list and require the least amount of care. Garters are cheap, but aren't as easy to handle an interesting as the Ball Python. Corn snakes although they come in different bright colors, can be a little more agressive and being so small, can be more of a challenge to feed. Long tailed Boas can be a little more agressive as well, and be more expensive. Milk snakes, can be a little more agressive than the Ball also. A Ball Python is your best bet, plus they get a good size at around 4 to 5 feet.

I'd go with the corn or milk snake. I have 11 babies and 2 adult corn snakes, and they are calm, but young ones can be bitey, so be ready. My babies have bitten me dozens of times, and I have yet to bleed. My neighbor has a king snake, and I had a milk snake, and any snake in the king snake family will make a great pet; However, they are incredible escape artists. My neighbor's king snake has escpaed several times, but his rat snakes never have. I would also suggest the ball python, but make sure it doesn't bite. Baby Ball Pythons have large teeth. I've had one rip my hand open, but that was my fault because I had just put a mouse back in it's cage and I smelled like food. At the pet store, ask the person there to take it out. If it lunges for the hand in a strike attempt, ask for a different one. Usually they have several in one cage. After he grabs one out, it will either roll into a ball, or it will wander around, looking at its surroundings. Those will be the ones you want. Good luck.

Well I used to keep and breed garter snakes when I was very young. They are very docile and are really easy to keep in captivity.
If you want something a little more exotic, go with the ball python for starters, they are beautiful and docile. When choosing one, find out where they came from, because if they are wild caught, they will eb aggressive.
The exotic snakes are a little more expensive, bacuase you have to feed them bought food, like mice, garter snakes eat worms, slugs and all sorts of slimy things you can find in the yard for free.
The tropicals also need heat lamps and things, whereas native species like gaters can do fine without one, but do better with it anyways.
Hope this answers your question!

The top one on my list would be a kingsnake. But going by your list I would say a corn. Don't get a garter. A lot of people would tell you this is a good snake for a first timer but to care for them correctly it takes a lot of work. Whatever you decide on make sure you do a lot of research on the snake your getting. Here are some good pages with care sheets.

Corn snakes, i'd say.
They don't get particularly large and they're more available than things like pythons.
By what i've heard they are fairly easy to take care of.
They'd be good for just starting out, but eventually you could move up to the larger ones that are more difficult to care for.

Ball Pythons are very good beginner snakes. They max at about five feet they are generally tame and there is plenty of literature about raising them. The only bad thing about them is they have a nasty habit of peeing on you when you are handling them.

python or boa. i would recommend an albino python bc of both visual beauty and just the coolness of the snake itself

Ball Python, in my opinion.

My old afterschool daycare had one who was the sweetest thing.
