I get this all the time as well, and they're just called muscle cramps and are often caused by either poor circulation, dehydration or low potassium - some ppl with hypothyroidism get them frequently. The ppl who answered your other question are right, a charlie horse is the same thing only ppl can get them in many different ways. Sometimes you can just be standing around not moving and one will come on, but also like you mentioned you can stretch or move a certain way which will cause the muscles to cramp up. Try eating more bananas or other potassium enriched foods. If you get them a lot I would see your doctor as you may have something else causing them like mild hypothyroidism. Hope this helps!

I think Charley Horse is just a common term. But to eat more bananas, drink orange juice and more magnesium. Anything that will provide you more iron and potassium. Potassium is the key. I used to experience this alot when I was younger but now I eat better and I have not had a symptom in over a year.

My body does that. I have not asked a doctor why, but from reading it could anything from lack of oxygen, (I smoke) to lack of calcium, to to much potassium.

I started taking Flax seed, Borage, and fish oil pills and it seems to have decreased, I can stretch now with out knotting up. The pills come in that combination in one pill.

Flax seed for focus, Borage for joint pain, and fish oil for over all health.

you could be low on potassium, eat more bananas. or, like the first answer said, you could be dehydrated. first thing when you get up, drink 2 full glasses of water. after all, you've been without water for 8 hours.

You gave rather limited information, so the answers you get will be just as limited. If you don't think what you experienced were charley horses, then maybe you should consider consulting a doctor.

Make sure you get your daily dosage of iron and potassium. Eat lots of bananas. It helps prevent cramps like that.
