I'm new to contacts...

I'm new to contacts. I'm not talking about a long nap, but what if I fall asleep on the couch for 30 minutes or so, will it cause a problem?

You should not... if your contact lenses are rubbed on your cornea you may get a nasty corneal abrasion that will take a day or two to heal

You might not initially feel the rub, but once the abrasion has set in you'll feel it!

The main reason for not wearing them constantly is the risk of infection. If your eyes get an infection, that is a very bad thing that can sometimes be difficult to treat.

Make no mistake with your eyes. You only start with 2 of them.

Hi!...i have been using contacts for the past 11 years and of course i have taken naps with them in my eyes!!!...i have never ever had any problem with my lenses. But one should never sleep for long hours with them as it can lead to eye problems and eye dryness and the lenses also tend to dry out. So basing on my experience it is fine to take naps with contacts in your eyes. But in case u feel any discomfort, or dryness or u have a habit of rubbing ur eyes while sleeping, then it is better to remove them before a nap. Gud luck!

I've taken naps while wearing my contacts...and I've had them "stick" to the surface of my eye afterward. It was kind of freaky. They didn't get enough lubrication while I was sleeping, so they temporarily adhered themselves to my eye surface! I had to spend about 20 minutes standing over a sink rinsing my eyes with saline before they were moist enough to slide off my eye. This doesn't happen with everyone, though. I would imagine that if your eyes feel OK afterward, then the occasional 30 minute nap would be fine. Check with your eye practitioner to be sure, though!

If you wear daily wear contacts, definitely not. I have accidently done this and your eyes get very dry and you must continue to blink constantly to lubricate them.Never take your contacts out if they feel like this,as you will damge your cornea because the dry contacts will pull on it , causing damage. If , however, you wear extended wear, there should be no problem as this can be kept in during sleep. Talk to your eyecare provider to see which type you have.
