It is so much fun being 'girlie', and doing 'girlie' things [for want of a better word], but I see so many women who dress like men, have their hair shaved practically to their scalps [older women are really guilty of this], and because they imitate men, they walk and talk like them. I just love wearing dresses and skirts [jeans are for very casual or gardening] and lacy blouses. And having some hair on my head. What do you guys and gals think?

Wow, jen. You sound and look like you hate everyone. It wasn't necessary to be rude. I just asked a question.

I wear dresses all of the time, infact I collect vintage dresses from the 1920's and wear them, I love being feminane, but I also think that men's inspired woman's wear can still be feminane, look at Marlene Dietrich and Katherine Hepburn or Ava Gardner. Also a pants suit is ideal for some careers like a business woman or a attorney. You can't be overly girlie in some fields or you just won't be taken seriously. I am really sick of jeans as well, and stopped wearing them a long time ago.
I think the issue that needs to be adressed in our society is not how feminane women are, but how they feel about thier bodies, so many women dress overly sexy ( some that are very young) because they feel they need to compensate for other things.
Worse, many women don't feel comfortable with the bodies God gave them and feel as if they constantly need to loose weight to look like the actresses in Hollywood. Girls as young as 8 have eating disorders. I think this is a much more serious concern for me.

I work in the field of construction and design, which means I am around a lot of men. I have hair on my head, I'm very professional, but at the same time I am not too much of a girlie girl, but I'm not a butch, either. I wear pantsuits, dress slacks, nice shirts, maybe a skirt here and there..Women don't need to be in dresses to be considered feminine, there are many other ways you can still be a girl and not wear a dress. And I am an example of that. It's 2006 - open your eyes, open your mind.

While you enjoy expressing yourself by wearing ultra feminine clothing and hairstyles, some of us feel we are expressing our femininity by dressing in whatever way we feel most comfortable in. I am 5 foot 10 inches tall and weigh 160 pounds. I look like a jackass in flouncy skirts and lacy blouses. AND most importantly, that is not my personality. And I am a real woman. Femininity is not just on the surface.

because for all that women's lib has freed up the workforce for women, women still aren't allowed to hold jobs. basically what the world said was 'fine, you women can hold men's jobs, but you have to act like men to do it', so they do. there's no equality, men are still the ideal, it's just been allowed that women can be good men, too. which means that being a woman is still 'weak and silly', because it's better to be strong and mean like men, and now that women can be men, many of them choose to be, and stop being women.
on the other hand, some women just have a natural inclination to more masculine things, like some men have a natural inclination to more feminine things. and THAT, I think, is what should be encouraged: that everyone be who they want to be.
did this make any sense? I can never tell....

I have always been very tomboyish. There is not a day that I don't leave the ho\use without makeup, however you will never see me in a dress or watching a romance film. I enjoy who I am, and if that means no dresses, flowers and kittens that is fine with me. I still consider myself feminine just not overly 'girlie'.

not all women enjoy the chore of what being "girly" includes. some women don't like the feel of make-up. some prefer pants over skirts. long hair means having to fix it; while short you can just wash n go. i think it's more about comfort. comfort has taken over style. times have changed and everyone is busy concerned with work and just hectic lifestyles.

I think people should always do whatever it is they are comfortable with. I am like you, I prefer wearing dresses, wearing make-up, and having longer hair. However, it's what I'm comfortable with, even when others aren't. I get a lot of comments when I wear dresses to certain places or events, like it isn't appropriate. What's appropriate for me, might not be what's appropriate for everyone else.
It's great to live in a nation where we can decide what we wear, isn't it?

i am a makeup artist and hairdresser with fabulous hair and mad skilz at my own makeup. i can hardly breathe without my toes done. i also like clean lines and no frills on clothes but lots of hardware. my woman has a shaved head rarely wears makeup and loves little bows on everything, hearts, and birds and lace with her miniskirts. we're both feminine in our own way. that is the essence of woman. would you say that laurie petty is not feminine? rubbish. she's just got her own style.

It relies upon on the girl and it relies upon on the guy. there are one of those vast quantity of variables in words of age, height, weight, actual difficulty and coaching. i'm 40 8, 5'4" and one hundred and sixty flabby pounds. i could probably sparkling the clock of a woman who's six ft tall and outweighs me by ability of one hundred lbs.----if she's 80 or over. on the different hand, i'd no longer achieve this properly adverse to a twenty-365 days-previous who weighs one hundred lbs. dripping moist---if she knows judo, because judo is truly a kind of scuffling with techniques the position you should use an combatants' weight adverse to him/her, and that i do not comprehend judo. Wrestling and boxing supply benefit to those that are better over those who're smaller, yet being youthful and quick enables too. It also relies upon on what the stakes are. My oldest sister is tiny, and for the most area a pacifist. yet in case you tried to harm her son, i do not care how vast or reliable you're, you'll land up useless.
