a good friend is the one who understands you well &to maitain her/him is very difficult as it is like a thread if you will try to pull it,it will break into two pecies & if u will try 2 join it,it will never join & if it will join than somewhere or the other it will be incomplete so try not to hurt her/him by telling lie & by doing things which ur friends like.by this u can perfetly maitain ur friend

Firstly you need to keep the relationship alive by COMMUNICATING with each other. Always be honest ,truthful, upfront and loyal to your friend. Always apologise when you are wrong. Never blow it off because the person is your friend. When you have differences, try to "agree to disagree." Never criticize or belittle your friend in front of others. Criticize or share your honest opinion about way of dressing , work done etc, when you are alone together.

Listen to him/her wen he/she is speakin. Give each other advice. Spend time together. Be open with each other. and just be able to take care of one another!!! :)
