Canada is the #1 hockey country. Living in Canada and not playing hockey is like living in the United States and never eating McDonalds or going to Walmart.

Being from Michigan, this is an easy one..

CANADA

That question is like asking what country is the best country for baseball..

For the record.. during the 2005-2006 season..

Canada led with 516 players in the NHL
USA was second with 178
Czech Republic was 3rd with 65..
Russia and Sweden topped out the top five with 51 and 46 respectively..

The Czech Republic has does pretty well in recent years. Still I think it will always be Canada just because hockey is the #1 sport in Canada. In any country the kids with the best innate athletic abilities tend to go into whatever sport is most prestigious.

In every tournament where Canadian hockey teams are entered, whatever division, whatever skill level, whichever gender (don't forget about the ladies, they play hockey too), every team is pumped up about playing against Canada. Other countries measure their success this way. That's how I measure hockey supremacy, not by quality of players we have, but by how many country that hates us. GO CANADA GO

I think it is still Canada, no matter which team you mention, no matter how badly they do, the seats all sell out. You cant't beat Canadian hockey fans, it is truly a hockey country. Just because we dont win the cup and all the world tournaments, we still live, eat, and breath hockey!

For sheer enthusiasm at all levels of the game Canada is it.

If you mean, attendance-wise it's the USA as there are more people at games due to more teams at all levels from NHL to minors to college.

But for talent per capita, it has to be a tossup between Sweden, Finland and the Czech Republic.

Canada produces more NHL calibre players than any other nation. I'd say Finland is a close second and the Russians seem to produce more star quality players like Ovechkin, but less players overall.
