i want to make my own hummingbird feeder. any suggestions?

Ok, for humming bird feeder, you need four parts water to one part sugar..(looking at the directions on my hummingbird feeder which I havent put out yet)...

My hummingbird feeder reminds me of a dog dish, with a 2 litre bottle inverted and it has small holes drilled in it, so that the hummingbirds can insert thier beaks..(not slits, holes). This way, the water stays at a certain level, and you can tell when the thing needs filled up again... (also, its red, as a lot of people put red dye in it for the hummingbirds to feed on, dont know why but it seems to attract them more)...

Yes. Take a 20 oz. clear soda bottle, wash it in warm soapy water to remove the label. Turn it upside down and poke one small hole in each side near he edge and bend a wire hanger or wire like a U shape with small bends in each end to make it stay inside the bottle for a hanger. Keep the lid on. Cut small slits in it just around the middle. Now fill it to just below the slits with water and a couple teaspoons of sugar. You can put food coloring in it if you want to, but it is not necessary. The birds can get their beaks in the slits, but watch the water level so it isn't too low.
Hang in a covered area where you may have red or hot pink flowers or colors to attrack the birds, and enjoy!!

Be sure you can change the water every 2 or 3 days. You need to make it so their beaks don't get caught - our you will kill the little birds.

Plant flowers instead, much healthier and easier.
They like any kind of Salvia, lavendar etc.

yeah. put fried chicken on your flower bed. add mashed potatoes and rolls, if needed
