I believe we need to totally eliminate our dependence on Venezuela oil. After that, our posture should be to treat Chavez as we do Kim Jong IL. Totally disregard his anti American posture, yet undermine him when we can. Since the CIA is no longer in the pruning business, this is probably the next best thing.

Chavez will self destruct, because he is interfering in too many other countries and creating a lot of resentment. He's isn't smart like Castro, who kept his communist objective mainly limited to Cuba. We left Castro alone, because he wasn't bothering the US, and after the 13 days in May, he pretty well backed off!

Why should we be worried about handling any country. This is the problem with our foreign policy we want to get what we want no matter who it hurts. For a country like the US that only makes up something like 5% of the world population we sure do want to control everything. I feel that we should "handle" them as a foriegn country that has something to offer us in exchange for what we can offer them. THis in no way implys that we should be invovled with the politics of that country we should just be trade and business. The problem is the World Bank ( run by us) has taken advantage of these little countries in an effort to make sure that the natural resources of a country are givin solely to American compines to exploit and profit from while those small countries get the short end of the stick and the people of those nations suffer. For instance the cocaine problem in this country is blamed on Columbia so what do we have going on down there it is called PLAN COLUMBIA and this is a process by which we spray chemicals on all of the vegitation down there in order to kill the coca palnts and slow or stop production of cocaine. Sounds good right? Well what if you knew that by spraying the countryside with these chemicals you were also killing there food supply and destorying the water supply which is causing children to go hungry, women to mis carry, and people to die. Would this still be a good way of dealing with the drugs coming out of there? Next some one may say how do you handle it I say legalize drugs and let grown people make there own decsion with ther life it works in Europe. Also the guy that said kill him should be in the Bush cabnent he has about as much sense as those guys anyway. King George loves to use diplomacy it is called an M-16 or Fighter jet. Only way he can do it we have all heard this idoit speak and if he did not use weapons and fear the world would not listen to this moron.

I think we should take a hands-off approach, for the moment. I don't think he's a real danger, and we have too much on our plate now to worry about the likes of him.

Given time, his own policies will be his undoing. Latin America has seen nutballs like him come and go numerous times. If we are too aggressive with him, he'll just exploit anti-American sentiment to detract from criticism against him. If he doesn't have the American Boogeyman to use on his people, they'll start to notice the stagnation and oppression in their society, and will focus their discontent against him instead of us.

US supports democracy, right? Well, Chavez was democratically elected in a sovereign state. I don't see how the US should even think about "handling" him. Perhaps they should start "handling" some dictators they support, eg in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Pakistan...

Accepting, he is a leader of a sovergn country and should be treated as such, just because a leader does not follow us does not mean that they are a bad leader. They just have another way of running their country.
