Yes. Even though your friend might not appreciate it. The family deserves to know what happened, and who caused it. Also, your friend needs to take responsibilty for what happened, even if it means prison for a few years. Overall it's just the right thing to do, but first try and get him/her to tell the police. If he/she won't, then you should go ahead and tell the police.

If my Momma killed someone in an accident I would tell the police or tell her to tell them. Vehicular manslaughter is a major charge, but it still has to be done. It is the right thing to do. I guess the question is was he or the person killed doing anything wrong? If so, he might just get leaving the scene of a crime or negligent homicide. There's also involuntary manslaughter which doesn't carry a huge stick, but at this point he is committing another crime by not turning himself in.

You've got to tell the police, just look at what happened in "I know what you did last summer"!!!
Ok all joking aside...
You've got to tell the police. In the long run it will be fair to your friend, because if you don't say anything and he is never caught, he will have to live with what he did for the rest of his life. Not to mention that you will have to live with the fact that you never told the truth for the rest of your life. Do you really want that on your concience? Be prepared, if you do this you might loose your friend, but would you really want to be friend with someone who would hide doing something this terrible?
Also, think about if it was your friend that someone hit, and no one came forward to confess- without knowing who did it and that they are sorry, you would never get over it.
I really hope this is a hypothetical question :(

a best friend is there for his friend in anytime, and part of being a good friend is help him and shoe him the right thing to do which is not running away, one day he may get caught and get a much more punishment in jail that he could have got when he first had the accident, and then he well blame u as his best friend for not showing him the right thing to do
trust me in that
tell the police.........some how Ur helping him from guilt too

That sucks, of course ethically and morally you are obligated too. Really I guess the best advice is to try and convince your friend to tell the police themselves.

yeah, i think that you should tell the police. you don't want to be later charged as an accessory/accomplice to vehicular manslaughter. first though, contact a legal advisor and find out what you can to save yourself from anymore pain and your friend from being severely punished. good luck man, that is a lot to carry on your mind

No, but I'd convince him to by any means necessary, even threats of telling them myself. If not out of respect for the dead or your own conscience, do it for your friend. His chances of getting away with it are fairly poor, and hit-and-run convictions often end up with the maximum allowable sentence

Yes you should. That is the moral thing to do. Think about the unanswered questions of the individual's family. Think about living with this on your conscience for the rest of your life.

Yea. Why wouldn't you? It's better to let the police know ahead of time. If you wait till later to tell them then your *** is in trouble. don't wait. go ahead and tell them.
