He is talented, but he is not the most amazing. If you look at his solos, while they sound incredible, they are not really anything thing special. Most of his solos are just him doing the 3 main parts of the chord (1st, 3rd, and 5th interval) over and over at different octaves. If you want real jazz improv, listen to Charles McPherson, he's really good at improv.
I used to think what you think, but for 2 reasons. 1, I was too young to know any better until I learned more about how music, jazz and improv works.
2. There is not a large number of "popular" sax players, but there are a lot that are very good that should be listened to.

Kenny G is one of the greatest and most known sax players ever who has paved the way for so many younger saxophonist. He's kinda like a legend too. I love his music. I can't play the sax, but he plays it well enough for the both of us.

chirp,chirp,chirp........
(the sound of crickets in the silence.)
Seriously though, if you've heard one Kenny G. piece you've heard em all, even if he plays it well.
If you play the sax then you gotta find a balcony with a pack of Lucky's and a bottle of Southern Comfort.
That's what I'd be doing if I had the time/talent to play the sax.

Nice. Kenny G is great. But in a world where most music listeners are rebels, i think he is underappreciated.
