well, if your boss is paying you to work---why not ask someone if you can help them finish a task they won't have to worry about tomorrow or on Monday? Why not ask if there is any errand that needs to be run? Wash the coffee pot. File some forms, make some calls, make a quick stop to the potty room.
The Bible says that we should be wise and walk wisely, redeeming the time. If you start FINDING things to do at the end of your day---when you have completed your own work---offer to help someone----and perhaps your boss will start paying attention and give you a promotion or a raise, or both.

Glad that you mentioned "when there is nothing else to do"...it surely indicates that you were saying so after finishing the usual quota of your work. Well, I would suggest you go for reading something lovely and nice....or if you have access to net, then this site Yahoo Q&A is nice way to share your thoughts among others.....if not then try to assist the other fellows in your office who still were to finish their work.....I think this will really help you to come over those 30 odd minutes of your balance.

I would try to tidy my area and to maybe prepare for the next day, i.e making sure I have enough supplies to start my day. Have the necessary files on my desk and to make sure I wash out my coffee mug.
