I am going to see a play in San Francisco tomorrow at 2pm in the afternoon. What is appropriate to wear? Right now, I think I will either wear a jersey knit black halter dress (tad fancy- has little sequins) or black pants and a purple sick halter tie back top. Would the dress be too fancy for an afternoon performance?

I would go with the black pants. A dress is more for a night out, Unless it is a sun dress. If you can get your hands on some Gaucho pants and a button up shirt that would be appropriate also. You might want to consider also if you are going with others just to ask what they are going to wear. You never want to be "too" dressed up if you are in a crowd, stand out but not overwhelm. Go with the black dress i think it will look very nice you date will still be wearing a suit am i correct. Just make sure to wear hose and nice heels.
