I've always been a worrier. One night I was literally pacing the floor and it suddenly dawned on me that I was working myself into a froth over something that I could neither control or solve. That's my mental check list now when I find myself obsessing about an issue... Can I change, control or fix the situation and finally is it my place to do so?
I have four sons and all their friends that I could worry about non-stop. Who knew boys (nearly men) had so much emotional drama going on 24/7?! *L* My sons have taught me that on an emotional level, men and women aren't all that different. We just express it differently. But, I realized that if I wanted them to become good problem solvers I'd have to give them a shot at tackling their trauma dramas first, before giving advice.
I listen patiently to give them a sounding board and then say "You're a fair and intilligent person. I'm sure you'll figure out a solution." Sometimes they return for the "This is what I would do..." speech, but more often than not they handle it on their own.
The same applies to my mom who calls worried about other family members. I'm trying to teach her that she can't fix everyone's problems either. *L*
We don't get to select our problems but we can be selective about how we react to them. Some are worthy of worry, but those we can do nothing about and those that are really someone else's to deal with, we have to let go.

By worrying I assume you mean thinking about what can go wrong. You are not god and surely you are not responsible for everything. When you start to worry, write down what is worrying, the onpaper ask yourself is there a different way of looking at this worry? Answer the question. If you ry thiswill happen in your head after awhile. Try looking at materialsand information on cognitive therapy. If your worries are interfering with your functioning and this does not help You may want to see a physician for evaluation for anti anxiety medication. Remember worrying is a choice which you can make not to do.

By not thinking about the things that cause me to worry.
It's possible that I can't do a thing to change any thing that I would worry about, so I don't think about it. Or think about it a little but not enough to start worrying about it.
I channel my thoughts alone more productive lines. This keeps the level of stress down to when I do this.

Read the book "How to stop worrying and start living?" by Dale Carnegie. It will give you tons of tips.
Realize you can't change the situation by worrying, it just upsets you with no other consequence. Put your mind at ease by using it for something you can change.

If you have a problem look at it as something very easy to handle, and then think less about your problems instead keep keep working as hard as you can to overcome it.There is no harm in working hard as long as you will enjoy the fruit of your labour.

Nearly all the things I've worried about have not come to pass, so I finally stopped.
