I have an older linksys router befsr41 version 3 that still works and has been sitting in my drawer for a long time (linksys doesn't update the firmware on it anymore) it still safe to use on the Internet security wise? I am giving my pc to my sister (I'm a Mac user now) and I was thinking of including the router with it.

I think that is the same model that I am using. It should work great. Just make sure that any special features such as DMZ are turned off. Your best bet is to reset it to factory default conditions. You may have to check the manual for how to do that. The manual can be found on the linksys site.

It should be fine. Just make sure your sister pc have all the spyware and viruses tool installed and the firewall up and running. Also, after setting up the router, make sure you secure it so no one trieds to piggyback on the internet access.

Yup, grasshopper is right....Make sure you set up an encryption security code on it like WEP and change the SSID on it. Besides that, just make sure her PCs firewall is turned on (the free one with Win XP). Good Luck!

avg is a free antivirus software (very good and free)
and windows defenders is a spyware program (not the best but free)
