A friend of mine had a similar problem - it turned out the engine idle RPM was lower than normal.

Sounds like you need a tune up. Could be your idle is set low or your oxygen senser is out of wack. Take it in for a diagnostic test to find the problem.

Does it always stall at idle? Idle Air Control valve. Dirty injectors. Clogged air filter. There's literally about 50 different things that could be causing a stall situation.

I had the problem on a 93 Chevy Corsica. My brother-in-law, a mechanic, told me to unplug a switch located on the transmission (neutral start switch, maybe?) I did, and it never happened again however, go to AutoZone and they can hook up a tester for free

has this just started happening since you've been using your A/C? IF so, then you could have a bad Idle up control Valve.
If this is the case, turn your A/C off and if it stops, replace it.

Sounds like it might be one of your sensors that might be out.
