Ryan makes a good point......do i have my own airspace above my garden? Can I shoot planes down if they cross my airspace without permission.....?

Generally you have to purchase in addition to the rights to build and develop the land, the mineral or oil rights if you so wish to "own it" to the "core of the earth". It's perfectly possible to own mineral rights and not the land, as well, if mineral rights by a previous person were not released and information of such was not included in the title to the land.

Not at all; as a matter of fact, the landowner usually doesn't own the oil, gas or minerals below their land or even house. It is not unheard of for an oil company to demand access to the good stuff under someone's land, and the landowner doesn't usually have the right to refuse, in the right circumstances. The landowner is usually compensated, but it can become a difficult situation when you have to look at an oil derrick outside your patio!

No, not usually. Rights to water, oil, or minerals are seperate from your property on the surface. The exception is that in some locations you may have access to groundwater beneath your property (though this may be accessible in springs, or in 100-foot wells, not at the core of the Earth!)

It depends on the real estate law in your area, as for the legal ruling. In Texas, yes. You would still own the land, even if you don't have mineral rights, you just wouldn't be able to mine, access, etc that part.

Nope. In most places, the mineral rights to the land is owned by someone else, which in many cases would interrupt your downward trip.

Yes, I guess since you can dig as deep as you want to, build your own fall out shelters deep underground and as long as you aren't stockpiling weapons, the government doesn't care! Though I don't know how much of us actually "own" anything. You only own it if you payed your mortgage off, til then the bank/fed owns it.

Yes it belongs to u from the highest point on the surface, to all the way down to the middle of the earth.

Your property will end half way with your neighbours who lives to the antipode.

Technically, yes (except if city pipes go underneath..those aren't yours), but in order to excavate in, say, your backyard, you would need to ask a bunch of people and get permits and...it's just not worth it. But now that I think of it, is it really your land if you need to ask for permission to dig it up? Who knows!
